Sonography has significantly expanded the range of urological examination methods in the last decade. After the indispensable basic examinations, non-invasive ultrasound diagnostics are rapidly becoming increasingly important in practices and clinics. Often, the further diagnostic procedure can only be determined after sonography. The urological examination with ultrasound waves initially focused on the differential diagnosis of renal cyst and kidney tumor. With increasing experience, sonography also became of particular importance for other urological questions, such as the diagnosis of parallel processes, mute kidneys, haemab obstruction after surgery, retroperitoneal lymph node diagnostics and suspected radionegative stone formations or recesses within the renal pelvic system. The method continued to be of particular importance in the assessment of renal processes during pregnancy and in children in general. With ultrasound-guided punctures and fistulas of the upper hamducts, surgical interventions can already be superfluous or can be carried out under much more favourable conditions. It is not yet possible to fully understand the developments in ultrasound diagnostics for bladder and prostate diseases, which in the foreseeable future may be able to complete or even replace histology and cytology with computer-controlled image evaluation methods.
