All the numerous compounds we have discussed so far are constructed according to comparatively simple laws, although we have seen that different elements can occur in different valences and form different levels of connection. Nevertheless, it was relatively easy for us to understand these deviations and to make them clear visually. The matter is considerably different and much more difficult in the case of the connections of the coal plant, of which we have already learned some simpler ones. Carbon forms the basis of an enormous number of compounds which it forms with only a few other elements, namely hydrogen.| ISBN 13 | 9783642892882 |
