The traumatized abdomen continues to pose a particular challenge in everyday surgical practice. No surgeon can escape this task; basic care must be possible in every surgical department - regardless of its size. In this context, the rapid, reliable diagnosis, the targeted indication for surgery and, finally, the surgical treatment of the intra-abdominal injury are of equal importance for the prognosis of abdominal trauma. In all 3 areas, new aspects have emerged and progress has been made in recent years. The aim of this book is to reproduce these. Particular emphasis has been placed on communicating practically important rules and facts that have proven themselves to the authors. It was our goal to create a small breviary of the traumatized abdomen from the practice for the practice. Last but not least, it is important to us to point this out, as the experienced abdominal surgeon has the best prerequisites for reliably diagnosing and successfully treating the traumatized abdomen. A surgeon who handles intra-abdominal organs confidently on a daily basis under elective conditions can also do so in the case of trauma-related injuries. The emphasis of our book title must therefore be on abdomen and not on trauma.
