The Compartment Syndrome by V Echtermeyer
Compartment syndrome is a common and common disease that is surprisingly unknown to many doctors. Especially in the case of "high-risk" patients - flill injuries, direct closed lower leg fractures with soft tissue damage, "pilon fractures", general hypoxia in severely injured patients - the first symptoms are never observed or misinterpreted. Relevant personal experience, not least as an expert, justifies this statement. The time factor for the forecast plays a decisive role here. In manifest compartment syndrome, irreversible neuromuscular damage can occur after just 3-4 hours. In the case of lower leg bones, which make up about 40% of all shaft brichen long bones, compartment syndrome is the most common complication after the thorom bΓΆse. Functional deficits in the treatment of fractures, especially after fractures of the lower leg, are largely due to compartment syndromes. For this clinical picture, a variety of synonyms were used in the German-speaking world until recently. The most common term was Volkmann's ischemic contracture, which, however, only describes the final state of this clinical picture. We have decided on the term compartment syndrome - corresponding to the English expression "compartment syndrome" - and it has now become generally accepted.| ISBN 13 | 9783540150237 |
