The articulation surfaces of the human ankle joints by Hans-Martin Schmidt
The human ankle joints are strikingly designed movement devices at the bending zone of the foot against the lower leg. On the one hand, they support the upright posture and on the other hand, they serve to move freely under normal body weight loads. In addition to transferring the body wound to the fueskeleton, the upper ankle joint is primarily used for undisturbed walking and running. 1m In conjunction with the taut joint formations of the subtalar fuE plate, which continue distally, the lower ankle joint expands the range of motion of the human fue without impairing the strength of the skeletal connections. This ensures that the FüEes can be easily adapted to the unevenness of the floor surface, and above all to ensure an uneven posture. Morphological changes of the FuEskeleton were acquired by humans through the transformation of a grasping or climbing foot into a standing and walking foot during evolution (Weidenreich 1921). As examples of orthoskelia and bipedalism, forrn and functional changes now appear particularly clearly on the articulation surfaces of both ankle joints. The skeletal structure of both ankle joints as well as their functions have been extensively investigated and discussed for a long time on the basis of this finding. Comprehensive treatises on anthropological problems were juxtaposed with numerous works of comparative and descriptive anatomy. However, quantitative results have been obtained in earlier years using methodologically different methods. The findings, which thus differed from each other to the Tell, led to contradictory interpretations of the structure and function of human ankle joint systems and unnecessarily made it difficult to understand the natural foot movements.| ISBN 13 | 9783540103066 |
