Surgical Laparoscopy by H-G Zimmermann
In my department, we have been trying for more than 20 years to make surgical laparoscopy, i.e. laparoscopy with special surgical issues, acceptable in our clinics and departments. Only in recent years has their inclusion in the surgical diagnosis of abdominal diseases or disease processes of the abdominal organs been achieved. And this despite the fact that a surgeon, namely Kelling, had already carried out the first endoscopy of the abdominal cavity in 1901 (colioscopy in dogs). In my department, we were able to extend this procedure beyond the laparoscopic exploration of the abdominal cavity (H. Lindner and H. Henning) carried out for the medical departments of our hospital for the diagnosis of liver diseases (H. Lindner and H. Henning). Trial laparotomies became increasingly rare in our country, and they were replaced by surgical laparoscopy, which can also be performed on an outpatient basis under favourable conditions, and is therefore cost-saving and practically low-risk to -free. The exception indication for the trial laparotomy is likely to remain staging in Hodgkin's disease. The impressive advances that new examination methods such as sonography, computed tomography, nuclear medicine, etc. have brought to the differential diagnosis of most abdominal diseases will undoubtedly limit the indication for surgical laparoscopy in the future. However, all these procedures cannot replace the histological examination of tissue obtained only by biopsy and sample puncture. This is only one of the indications which make the further development of surgical laparoscopy indispensable for differential diagnosis and also for some therapeutic areas (biopsy haemostasis, penetration of adhesions, etc.).| ISBN 13 | 9783540110262 |
