Proximal selective vagotomy in the treatment of gastroduodenal ulcer disease by Ah Amery
Proximal-selective vagotomy (PS V or SPV) as a surgical solution to the problem of gastroduodenal ulcer after a century of successful surgical therapy attempts - illusion or pana- zee? Every gastroenterologist knows about the long-term problems of gastroduodenal ulcer - somatic expression of a disease predisposition. Drug and surgical therapy of modern times with their effective, but only symptomatic secretion correction at the end organ - do they cure the disease or at least eliminate the symptoms permanently? Where does organ-preserving surgical therapy of proximal-selective vagotomy stand in this context? The assessment or objectification of new healing methods - especially in surgery - has to meet a special requirement profile. The study by Claude Muller and Sebastiano Martinoli is likely to correspond to this profile to a large extent, since the clinician will be curious about the results and those interested in statistics of the medical direction will critically study the methodology. Such a study should be prospective - the present work overlooks the five-year results; in terms of patient population, it is even hoped that the ten-year results will complement it. The study is multicenter, as it includes eight surgical departments with academic teaching obligations; it is cross-border - five German, one French and two Swiss university hospitals or academic hospitals took part. 89 different surgeons, most of whom are still in training, are involved in the operations of this study, so that the results appear to be reproducible. . Insofar as the clinical results cannot be objectified by numbers, they were not assessed by the surgeon but by the gastroenterological internist.| ISBN 13 | 9783540131977 |
