There is never a lack of teachers of pediatrics. In recent years, one can speak of a dber supply. None of the Biichers, however, in spite of the advantages of each one, is able to bring the student and physician a complete view of the theory of treatment, if only for spatial reasons. Nor is it sufficient to make therapeutic prescriptions for the treatment of a disease. Rather, the details in the indication and execution are required, which are indispensable for the success of the therapy. In order to circumvent this cliff, we have made it the principle in the present therapy not to count how the various diseases can be treated, but to show as precisely as possible how the choice of treatment method is influenced by manifold circumstances. We have been guided primarily by personal views and experiences, and have always made a special note when we have to resort to the experience of others. The danger of representation arising from subjectivity should nevertheless be avoided by the fact that our two courses of development and sphere of activity are far different from each other.
