If one compares the development of the field of nuclear medicine with other specialties, the result is a development which, in the shortest possible time, shows considerable progress in terms of experimental technology, i. e. radiopharmaceuticals and geriatric technology, as well as in terms of kinetic application. \nThese are such that in the preparation of the first two tables of nuclear medicine within this series of handbooks, it became clear that further parts were needed to deal with developments, particularly in the field of emission computed tomography, the use of cyclotron produced short-sleeved positron radios, data processing and some rapidly developing clinical applications (Volumes XV f1 B and Volumes XV\/3).
