Late results in orthopaedics by Walter Blauth
When reviewing therapeutic concepts, observations of long-term results are indispensable. They influence our indications and surgical techniques and enable clear prognostic statements. They also encourage self-criticism, contribute to modesty and can provide insights into the organism's astonishing adaptation processes. Unfortunately, analyses of this kind occupy only a very modest place in our literature. For this reason, the results of surgical treatment procedures were a main topic at the 35th Annual Meeting of Northwest German Orthopides in Kiel in June 1985. Over the course of 2 days, numerous speakers presented their more than 10 years of treatment results from the various areas of orthopedics and shared valuable insights and experiences. In the discussions there was sufficient time and opportunity to clarify ambiguities, to deepen indicated problems and to suggest suggestions for improving treatment methods. The debates and debates were met with great interest. This has prompted us to make the manuscripts with the revised contributions to the discussion available in monographic form to a wide circle of interested parties. We would like to thank all authors for their cooperation. We would like to thank the ladies and gentlemen of the Springer publishing house for the courteous and smooth cooperation.
