It has been a long time since a more extensive work on the subject of hallux valgus has appeared in German literature. Numerous questions about the etiology and pathogenesis, but also about the biomechanics and therapy of this common and often so unistic fuBdeformitiitis are still open. There is a lack of prospective studies and reports on hospital results that could provide clear information about the indication and prospects of success of some treatment procedures - with an acceptable number of unreported cases. In many surgical theories, careful descriptions and descriptions of the surgical techniques as well as their possible errors and dangers are also imposed. Every critical orthopid practitioner in the practice and clinic knows a number of treatment errors that can be extremely difficult to correct. These considerations and experiences were the deciding factor in dealing intensively with the topic of hallux valgus for one day during the 35th Annual Meeting of Northwest German Orthopiids in Kiel, in June 1985, and to try to take stock. Only competent authors were selected as speakers. They had the task of presenting our current knowledge about hallux valgus and thus preparing a discussion that lasted about three hours in total. This resulted in a solid set of information.
