Only when clear indications - including Ben Johnson in Seoul - could no longer be denied, did official investigations take place in the USA, Canada and Australia. In the case of the statements made under oath by athletes, coaches, sports physicians and officials, the enormous extent of the doping abuse slowly came to light. A commission was also set up in the Federal Republic of Germany, whose report now available shows that doping was widespread at least in the former GDR. The official recommendation, however, is: do not name a culprit, remain silent - and continue to dope in silence in order to be able to shine at the next international sports festivals. Without naming the exact facts and names of those responsible and accomplices, however, there will be no cleansing of sport from doping and no future for humane competitive sport. The anabolic-backed records are still considered the targets. For this reason, and especially because of the numerous victims - the often adolescent athletes who were often treated with hormones without their knowledge on the one hand and those who had tried in vain to perform in a fair way - the author decided to bring the truth to the public with this book. It also documents the health and psychological damage caused by doping substances (androgenic hormones), especially in women's sports, and how sports physicians and scientists have been involved in human experiments and research projects with the aim of developing new, stronger means and circumventing doping controls more effectively. Brigitte Berendonk was successful in top-class sport for many years - including German Youth Champion in the former GDR, then in the FRG, later German Champion in discus throwing and shot put and two-time Olympic participant. She competed a total of 39 times in the German women's national athletics team.
